This may not help too much but it puts it in perspective for me.
Most everyone has to bury their parents (it is part of life) Hopefully your parents lived past 70-75 and they did most of what they wanted to do B4 they died. But....have you ever buried a child, I did once 8 years ago....Real tough, (basically a real bad miscarrage that my wife had, she was 6.5 months pregnant.) I now have a son, He is now 6 years old and is my boy, very good kid. I have a friend that had a son who commited suicide at 22 years old, super sad. absolutely crushing to say the least. This friend of mine was off of work for 3 weeks afterwards.
Another friend of mine who is 39 now had his dad die of colon cancer 3 years ago, his dad was 58, horrible brutal death. As my friend was in the dumps he realized that his dad died of cancer because he chose to do nothing with the signs of colon cancer and died from it. And burying your children is far worse.
As for your friend dieing, that sucks. Did you get to see him before he/she died.? I have not lost a good friend....Yet. Hopefully not for a long time.
Remember that God still loves you, life is a real *itch sometimes.
My father in law died a year ago from bladder cancer, real bad way to go too. My FIL died because he chose to do nothing about blood in his urine. I guess he had blood for years and did nothing about it until too late. It is real tough to explain why grandpa died to my boy (who was 5 when he died) Explaining heaven to a 5 year old is tough. Explaining cancer is real tough too.
My bed side manner is not good but I hope this helps.

Today's Featured Article - Usin Your Implements: Bucket Loader - by Curtis Von Fange. Introduction: Dad was raised during the depression years of the thirties. As a kid he worked part time on a farm in Kansas doing many of the manual chores. Some of the more successful farmers of that day had a new time saving device called a tractor. It increased the farm productivity and, in general, made life easier because more work could be done with this 'mechanical beast'. My dad dreamed that some day he would have his own tractor with every implement he could get. When he rea ... [Read Article]
