I was responsible for writing the specifications and selecting the vendor for hydraulic oil for White tractors back in the late 80's. All Hydraulic oil is not the same. Some of the off brand oil left some of the necessary additives out either by accident or on purpose which resulted in poor performance such as foaming, peeling the paint from the insides of all the castings or prematurely plugging the hydraulic filters. Off brand hydraulic oil can be as good as the tractor manufacturer's oil or it can be of poorer quality. Another thing, hydraulic oil that is almost clear is made from Grade 2 base stock which is better quality than the dark brown hydraulic oil. The additive package does not turn the oil dark brown. You will be money ahead in the long run if you buy hydraulic oil from Deere, AGCO, or Mobil.
