I use carburetor cleaner from Walmart. It usually costs around $1.50 or less a can. It will loosen and remove paint so you might remember this if it's a factor and you don't want that result. Other than that it cleans metal very well and dries without film or residue. It's good too for removing paint from your hands and it's about the only thing that will remove Sharpie ink from skin too. I use Sharpies a lot to mark stuff and sometimes get it on me, but the carb cleaner takes it right off. Follow this up with soap and water to prevent any possible skin irritation. Pat H.
