THE HP.IS TAKEN FROM THE PTO SHAFT AT MAX RPM ON MOST NEWER "SMALL" TRACTORS.THE OLDER TRACTORS WERE MEASURED OFF THE PTO ALSO OR OFF THE BELT PULLEY IF IT HAD NO PTO.THE NEWER"SMALL" TRACTORS DO DEVELOPE MORE HORSEPOWER THAN A LOT OF THE OLD/OLDER LARGE TRACTORS.HOWEVER ON OLD/OLDER TRACTORS THEY ALSO RATED THEM FOR DRAW-BAR HORSEPOWER.THIS IS WHERE THE OLD(HEAVIER/LARGER)TRACTORS SHINE.DRAW-BAR HORSEPOWER RELATES TO THE TRACTOR PULLING A HEAVIER LOAD ;DUE TO WEIGHING MORE(BETTER TRACTION).THE NEW SMALLER TRACTOR TRY'S TO COMPENSATE BY HAVING 4 WHEEL DRIVE.(BUT NOT AS SUCCESSFUL).THE NEW /SMALLER ONES WILL PULL THE SAME PTO LOAD AS THE OLD "BIG"LOWER HORSEPOWER TRACTORS,AND IF RATED HIGHER WILL ACTUALLY RUN A BIGGER PTO LOAD.BUT IT MAY NOT BE ABLE TO ACTUALLY DRAG THAT IMPLEMENT THROUGH A FIELD AS WELL BECAUSE OF IT'S MUCH LIGHTER WEIGHT.DYNO'S DON'T LIE. I HOPE THIS MAKES EVERYTHING CLEAR AS MUD.
