Then, of course, there's the "ones that got away"- In 1974, while a loan officer for PCA, I talked to an Alaska fisherman- he liked me, and said he knew of two Bristol Bay salmon gillnet fishing permits (one for me, one for the Mrs.)that could be had for $7,500 apiece- He just knew they would be worth big money in a few years, because the State of Alaska was on the verge of limiting entry to the fishery. I actually had the money, on account of a small inheritance my wife had just received- Me and the Mrs. talked it over, but decided it was too risky (if the State of Alaska rejected the limited entry legislation, they would be worth nothing). Of course, you can guess "the rest. . . of the story"- Limited entry passed, and 5 years later, Bristol Bay permits were bringing $250,000 each.

Today's Featured Article - Restoration Story: Fordson Major - by Anthony West. George bought his Fordson Major from a an implement sale about 18 years ago for £200.00 (UK). There is no known history regarding its origins or what service it had done, but the following work was undertaken alone to bring it up to show standard. From the engine number, it was found that this Major was produced late 1946. It was almost complete but had various parts that would definitely need replacing.
