The other thing to consider here is the "duty cycle" of the tractor. You take a nice Farmall "H" that's in good condition and you can push the rated HP out of it for 8-10-12 hours a day, no problem. Just change the oil every so often and keep the air cleaner clean and she'll keep on chugging. Take one of these cheaply built "lawnmower" type tractors and run that for days on end - it won't keep up. As for modern tractors (real ones) versus antique/classic tractors - yep, the newer engines are more efficient, turn at a higher RPM, etc... Same thing with car engines. Ford's first V8 engine had only 80-90 HP - now there are V8's that are putting out 250-300 HP. Tim
