Most of the smaller compact diesel tractors today are rated at estimated HP. This is a mathamatical calculation based on the amount of heat energy released by the amount of fuel at a certain rpm and the conversion efficiantcy of the heat energy into rotary force. Basically the newer deisel engines produce more HP in a smaller engine than your older tractor produces but the ratings are over what the measured PTO HP really is. Tractor size really does't compare very well, for example a 1950's ford 800 was 42 PTO HP and it really isn't any larger in overall tractor size than you Farmall H.
