I may be wrong, I have always heard of indirect injection as being the type of engine where: The injector usually sits horizontal in the head. It is simply a stream nozzle. The fuel is shot out out of the injector down a short tunnel in the head, it strikes a deflector in the head which creates a spray mist entering the top of the cylinder. I have never worked on one of these engines although they are fairly common. Some older IH tractors had them(these tractors didn't start without glow plugs or ether), Ford produced an industrial engine of this type, it is also the basic principle so I am told of the International deisels used in Ford trucks. The discription above where they talk about a precombustion chamber sounds more like a circa 1910 kerosine engine than any deisel I've seen.
