I'e had mostly Fords and Dodges. Drive Fords and Chevy's part time hauling horses. Next one I buy will be a chevy or GMC. Better mileage, more power, and apparantly less maint. My dodge (01, 2500, 24 valve cummins with 165,000 is in the shop for its second front end and the whole top out of the engine. Head is toast. Seems that all the idling around on the farm fouled out the injectors, and they were dribbling instead of spraying (2 and 6). Caused the head to overheat and warp, then started blowing oil into the water. Head kind of self destructed after that. Body wise, I've been losing parts since I got my first one in 1991. Never had one yet that didnt shed something before I got it off the lot. Rough ride too.
Ford, I've only driven the 7.3's. Good trucks, better ride that the Dodge, comparable power (actually better but they have 100 hp chips and my dodge is stock), terrible fuel economy. Made two runs week before last, on 800 miles and one 750 miles (round trips). Never got over 11 miles to the gallon. Lots of piston and head problems on the company trucks every 100-120,000.
Chevy/ GMC, smooth as silk ride. Cab feels comfortable, less racket in the cab than the other two. Better fuel economy and truck runs like a scalded dog. Durability I dont know. None of these have over 100,000 but they run unchipped with the chipped up Fords.
