I have an 03 2500HD with the 8.1, allison, ext cab shortbed 4X4. The best I can get for mileage around here in north central MN is high 10's. Last july The wife and I went to southern MO on vacation, down there I was getting around 13.8 mpg, with a best of 14.9. As we were driving home, the closer we got to home , the worse the mileage got. Still have not figured that one out. My truck will do slightly better with 89 octane versus 87. I have never used a programmer, but have heard that hypertech is not a very good one for these engines. Check out dieselplace.com, there is a section for "gassers" that has some useful info.

The advice is timeless... so although it isn't necessarily antique tractor related, it will be prominently displayed in our archives to honor those who have the courage to ask and those who have the courage to respond in an honest, positive manner.
