I was working on a dairy farm about 15 years ago when I had my closest call.We spread manure every day with a Massey Harris 44 Special and large single axle spreader.One winter morning I was heading back the lane with a really full load when the back wheels of the tractor broke through the ice on the ruts from hauling silage the fall before.The back of the tractor dropped about 8" and hit solid ground.When the tires had something to bite into the governor opened up and the big standard Massey just stood on her hind end from all of that torque.I was slipping backard off the seat when she came back down as fast as she went up.

There is no known history regarding its origins or what service it had done, but the following work was undertaken alone to bring it up to show standard.
