My closest call was with my Case 580 backhoe a couple of years ago. Eventhough I should have known better, I have been using backhoes for many years mostly John Deeres, I was working on the farm finishing covering a new sewer. I had just about finished and was hauling off unneeded backfill when it started to rain. Instead of stopping and finishing later, I hurried and tried to finish. While dumping a load beside the barn in a low spot of the road next to a pond, I slid in the mud and the left rear tire went into the pond. It happen so fast, since I was rolling to the left and the controlls block the right, I could only hang on and ride it down. Fortunately it is an old manual extend-a-hoe vintage 1968, so the long dipper arm kept it from rolling completely over. That's the only reason my fat butt was still around to drag it out with my dumptruck. My dad stood his '58 Farmall Cub straight up on end one time trying to drag a log out of a gully for fire wood. It caught on a stump from a sapling, and before he could hit the clutch it reared up on the back wheels and stalled standing straight up in in the air. He just steped back off the seat on the ground and walked away. After a brief respite to gather his thoughts and make certain adjustments to his pants, he took a long 2x4 and released the clutch letting it back down on the ground. These may be adult toys, but they can and will break you body. There are far too few of us old tractor lovers out there to lose even one from something like this.
