If the leak is really bad you should be able to pull the pump off fill the reservior and see some wetness around the shaft it will normally leak more when not running.because when running there is suction at the shaft. But you normally have to take pump apart and see if shaft seal is hard.if it is that will make it leak also check shaft for wear in seal area.
