As far as I know, I think you're out of luck. The only place I know of the actual serial number is on the tin plate. I would imagine if the plate is there and unreadable, some forensic scientist would somehow be able to find remnants of the stamp, otherwise it would be tough. There are casting numbers which are cast into the bottom of the transmission housing which gives you a date that it was poured but this is hardly a serial number. An engine book reference I have shows all 30's having the F162 Continental block so that isn't much help. Some of the Massey models using those Continentals changed sizes in certain years.
