I am a new user and am trying to help a neighbor with a problem that he needs help with. He owns a 1993 Kubota M4030 SU tractor that he purchased new, which he has cared for carefully, kept in storage when not in use and the tractor is still like new. Unfortunately, and this is bad, the engine oil drain plug became loose and fell out, went undetected for a short time, and the engine seized up and stopped. He knew he was going to be replacing or overhauling the engine. The engine is a 51 horsepower 5 cylinder 148.7 cubic inch engine that came with the tractor and has 3200 hours on the engine. When the Kubota repair shop was approached, they indicated that they could not get parts for that engine, and that he would have to order a new engine like it. They quoted a price of about $8,200 plus shipping and he agreed. Then they called him back and said they could not get that engine as they do not make them anymore and that no other engine would fit. So, he has a very nice 1993 Kubota M4030 SU tractor with no engine. Has anyone ever encountered a similar problem, or have any advice on how to proceed? I have a Kubota tractor also and am already getting nervous. Any help or advice would be deeply appreciated !

After two summers of having to park my old 1964 model 4000 gas 4 cyl. on a hill just in case the 6 volt system, for whatever reason, would not crank her, I decided to try the 12 volt conversion. After some research of convert or not, I decided to go ahead, the main reason being that this tractor was a working tractor, not a show tractor (yet). I did keep everything I replaced for the day I do want to restore her to showroom condition.
