You won't be licking the glass anytime soon. I think it's a basic organizational habit that is a helpful tool to stay focused and not leave out or forget time sensitive things. I'm constantly writing things down, taking notes and making simple lists on a steno sized graph paper notepad. Talk about lost, one day last summer, whil'st picking lumber at lowes, I put the pad down, forgot where, went around looking for it, one of th clerks had already picked it up, finally got it back, I'd have found it if they had not picked it up, but it sure put a stop to things, as it was my material list for a job.
I used to always carry a notepad on construction sites, camera too, take photos, and notes, keeping an active list, one of my favorites was an item/action list to keep track of things to be done and who was responsible if it was not me.
I think it's the other way around, you'll be scratching at the glass if you don't keep organized, using a work list or similar.
