1.) IIRC, those terminals have a plastic cover that snaps on. If so, you can get the covers off by depressing a little tab with a paper clip, then bend the "tongue" in the female connector to tighten them up.
2.) Those are 9-Volt (or thereabouts) glowplugs, and get HOT and blow open VERY quickly, if a manual system is used. Then, the tips break off, and get pounded into the top of a piston, or jammed in a valve. NOT PRETTY. I suggest resisting the temptation to go to a manual pushbutton. Even if YOU are carefull, and only hold the button for a few seconds, sooner or later SOMEONE'S gonna get in there and hold the button 'til the GP's "pop".
Some guys have swapped the the 1988-1993 controller and GP's.
It's a MUCH better, and less finicky system. It controls the GP's a LOT better, to get them heated up enough, and NOT overheat them.
