Listing fees are charged on anything you list. The amount of the fee seems to depend on your starting bid amount and also the category you place it in. I normally start things out at $9.99 and the listing fee is about 35 or 40 cents. Beyond that there are options which you can buy or not. I usually pay the 35 cents (I think) for a Gallery photo (the little thumbnail photo that appears next to the listing). Sometimes I'll pop for the 10 cent scheduled start option. That way I can work on listing items all day and have them start in the evening. It seems that stuff that ends in the evening gets more bidding action at the last minute which translates to higher selling prices.
If your item sells, there is a Final Value fee which is based on the final selling price.
When listing items, you can add 1 photo for free. Each additional photo is about 15 cents. If you understand how to embed photos using html then you can put unlimited photos for no charge. If you go overboard on the html photos the listing will be very slow to load and some potential buyers will bail out without waiting.
