My brother-in-law used to have an '89 F350 crew cab dually with the 7.3 non-turbo engine. We used to borrow it all the time.
I once borrowed it to pull my 18' flatbed to Topeka, KS to pick up an Olds Ciera of my niece's that had spun a rod bearing. I got 14 mpg for the round trip. Another time we ran it empty up to St. Paul, MN and got around 18.
I don't know if this is a negative record or not, but I once hauled a '67 GTO to Minneapolis from Lincoln, NE for a fellow and pulled the same trailer with a Chevy crew cab dually, 454 gas burner. I got 6.8 mpg round trip, hauling the "Goat" to Minneapolis and pulling the empty trailer back. But--I admit I had the hammer down with the A/C on. I was trying to make time, not gas mileage.

The advice is timeless... so although it isn't necessarily antique tractor related, it will be prominently displayed in our archives to honor those who have the courage to ask and those who have the courage to respond in an honest, positive manner.
