One problem with your theory, item B didn't cost $50,000. Probably closer to $40,000, which left the farmer with an additional $10,000 in the bank and he could start making money with a lower initial outlay of cash. The bottom line is always the most important factor. Item A should be worth more if it cost more initially. If you buy a machine to keep for 10 or 20 years, it should have payed for itself a few times over, so the resale value shouldn't be a great concern. Dave
