In our small town that is hard struck by our current state of affairs, healt insurance is a real issue. I'm the old dude on our local EMS, and I can tell you this. Probably 60% of the folks we load anynmore try very hard to request that we do not load them as they have no health insurance. Sad to hear "please just let me die" from some wonderful kind hard working folks, I see alot of tears in our group of volenteers eyes, including myself at times.
Then It is smeared in blood knowing that their best years gross wages is less than the CEO of the health care insurance company makes the first hour or two in the first day of the fiscal year.
You noticed all our politicians want us to have health insurance. Did you ever notice they say insurance, and not health care. Wonder who is behind this? Probably not insurance Companies. Alot of foks have insurance, but have so many riders on their policies it is worthless.
I'm self employed and single, getting old and don't care if I die. I struggled for years wondering how to pay for health insurance raises every time I turned around. It was a very high stress decision at every turn. Finaly about three years ago the Blue Cross folks took the stress out of it for me. They raised their rates so fast it was not a stress related decision. I slept good that very night as i could not afford it anymore.
I'm fortunate enough to have been a vet. Care is along ways away, but I get EXCELENT care at a price I can afford. Not perfect, but just excelent. Drugs are far less expensive because they can negociate (the VA) with drug companies. In one case a certian drug is 68% cheaper than the very same drug that medicare pays for it. (same drug same Company) go figure!
One politician spoksman also stated on a Sunday morning show that the government should simply require everone to have health insurance. That sure seemed sweet, another stated if we required every employer to provide health insurance it wouldn't cost anyone anything. Why didn't I think of that?
Many folks do not expect enough out of their insurance man, rather just keeep sending in their money. Get after them to find a better GROUP if you have no health issues.

Today's Featured Article - Show Coverage: Journey to Ankeny - by Cindy Ladage. We left Illinois on the first day of July and headed north and west for Ankeny, Iowa. Minus two kids, we traveled light with only the youngest in tow. As long as a pool was at the end of our destination she was easy to please unlike the other two who have a multitude of requirements to travel with mom and dad. Amana Colonies served as a respite where we ate a family style lunch that sustained us with more food than could reasonably fit into our ample physiques. The show at Ankeny
