Well, I guess I'm one of those "shill bidders" then. Because I usually bid only once on an item. If an item's current bid is 10 cents but I'm willing and happy to pay up to 50 dollars for it, I bid 50 dollars. Then I pay up to 50 dollars for the item. It all depends on what others bid on the item. It's called proxy bidding. If the next highest bidder only bids 25 cents then I pay something like 50 cents when I win it even though my highest bid could be up to 50 dollars.
Most problems with eBay (not including scams) come from the bidders and sellers not knowing how eBay really works.
