some questions: > "stock" pistons- flat tops or dished? this is almost a bigger deal than the heads when determining compression. > the heads- why 1.94? ported 1.94s are just about a wast of time. 2.02 are plentiful, and aftermarket heads (esp on e-bay) are dirt cheap.
almost all of your horsepower is going to come from camshaft, heads, intake and carb- the bottom end is all about reliability. Go with a well prepped 350 4 bolt main block bored .030 over with the least expensive set of forged flat top pistons you can find. get a set of clean 2.02 heads, freshen 'em up, port match 'em to a used singl plane aluminum intake . Cam- I'd look for a bit more lift (.501) and less duration for the street, and I'd run a vacuum secondary holley 750 . these 355 ci motors are running every weekend on ovals all around america making 400hp or more without blowing up.have fun building it- that's almost more fun than runnin' it!
