There are millions of 2stroke Detroits, but though innovative when first put in production, they have proven to be troublesome in two ways (or more) They are not clean engines. Often from leakage and spitting fuel and lube. They are also not very environmentally friendly. They do not meet the specifications for clean operation needed today. They are also not as thermally efficient as the 4stroke engines. GMC now produces 4stroke diesels for that reason. They have good hp to weight ratio. They can make plenty of power if kept in the upper rpm band, not too much of a lugging engine. I think the symetry of the components, and the flexibility of the rotation, drive end choices,and other features is unique and valuable. JimN

Today's Featured Article - Restoration Story: Fordson Major - by Anthony West. George bought his Fordson Major from a an implement sale about 18 years ago for £200.00 (UK). There is no known history regarding its origins or what service it had done, but the following work was undertaken alone to bring it up to show standard.
