I would tell em pretty much what you just posted. If you are on will call, it don`t matter if they own the tank or not, you own the gas in it.
You`ll probably get a run around about how they are only in that area every so often, and you came up on their route list so the driver filled you. They may offer to knock the price down alittle or something to make you happy.
If you end up paying for it, and are intent on switching companies, talk to the company your switching to, they probably have a transfer pump and can pump your gas over into their tank, no need to run the tank down. Then you can call Ferrelgas and tell em to come get their tank.
I used to haul propane for Ferrelgas out of Moorehead ten years ago, the managers trick was to hold the price up after the load price dropped and pump all the keep full customers full, thus increasing the margin by quite a little.
