We've become over reactionary. A second-grader kisses a girl and it's harrassment. Bring a toy gun to school and you get expelled. Having guns at school is serious.
My son attends Michigan State and every time I hear about a campus shooting, I get more concerned. Any nut-job could flip out at any time: mad at prof who failed him, girl troubles, etc. We all dealt with our problems without guns.
I remember a kid I served in Viet Nam with. Nice guy...until he bought a .45. He became Cowboy Copus--we worked on base not out in the field. Waving it around in a bunker while we were on red alert did it for me. I told him what a hot dog he had become and I didn't want to be near him when he had that pistool. A few days later he sold it. Nice guy again.
Somehow, make the police department/school aware of what's going on. Just make sure you have all the facts in this sue-happy society.
