Dave, YES is sure does make a difference.. Batteries in paralell ADDDDDDDD to each others cranking amp capacity (while voltage, of course, remains the same) i.e. if each can supply say 400 amps, then two in paralell can supply 800 amps to the starter
HOWEVER if wired in series (like two sixes in series) the amps capacity stays the same as one of the batteries. If two 400 amp supply capacity batteries are in series, the combined series amps capacity REMAINS AT ONLY 400 AMPS
Therefore if its a bunch of amps you need for a short but fastttttttttt crank over, two batteries in paralell adds the amps each can supply for a paralell sum of twice the amps either could supply......
