I've been using the curly-cue flourescents to replace incandescants, mainly because lots of them are on sale to tempt you into trying them (electric company just gave me a couple when I went in to pay my bill, and Costco had them for 39 cents each in lots of 10 the other day). Seem to work fine in the house, except take a few seconds to warm up to full brightness, which I can live with. Barn is a different story- they often fail to fire (or never get bright) if its below freezing, and don't seem to last very long. Guess I'll stick with old fashioned bulbs for outdoor applications.

There is no known history regarding its origins or what service it had done, but the following work was undertaken alone to bring it up to show standard.
