Adam Sm. If it is a battery Ignition her is the timing steps from my I&T Manual. Crank engine until #1 pistion is coming up on compression stroke then crank slowley and stop when flywheel mark "Fire" is in the centre of the inspection port. Place distributor rotor in position where metal strip an top is pointing toward battery lead terminal on distribitor body. With contacts set to 0.022 gap, place distributor in mounting bracket and engage the driving members. Now rotate distributor cam as far as it will go in direction of its normal rotation and while holding it in position, rotate the distributor body until the contacts just start to open. Now tighten the mounting bracket to lock the distributor in this position. This method sets the fully advanced or running of the distributor. If a timing light is avalible the timing should be rechecked by running the engine at fast idle (above 1100 rpm) at which time the flash should occur when flywheel marked "Fire" or "F" is centered in the inspection port. Static timing is top center which is indicated an the flywheel by the mark "DC". Hope this helps you out.
