I am really trying to keep an open mind on this issue. I know trying to hire help baling hay. very rare these days Kids do not work like they did when I was young. I too have seen my share of lazzy bones who dont want to work.
That does not mean Americans are lazzy. far from it. productivity has shot way up. More people are working more hrs just to make ends meet. I for one on my last job was working 15 hr days on salary 6 days a week. And the company was wanting more treated us like we were stealing from them. Stress level was through the roof. And figured on a 8 hr day. I was being paid $27 hr. Actually worked out to about $11 or so if you figure what I really worked. Alot of companies are pulling that kind of crud. FedEX just got hammered for some thing like 300+ mill because they were paying thier drivers as independent contractors when they were in fact employees.
Fact is most hard working and honest americans are already working and have been noticed as such and have good jobs.
There are about a zillion jobs that pay $15 or less. I know if I was looking in that market I would be real picky about what I did. Would not want to waste the body when you dont have to.
I understand that there are less desirable jobs that are fighting for a smaller and smaller pool of tallent. I Got that.
I just cant condone a solution that involves breaking the law and allows companies a unfair advantage. If the market states that a certain job cost $20 a hr to fill with qualified tallent. But the owners are only willing to pay $10. So they hire Illegals to subvert the system also forcing out law abiding companies or forcing them to skirt the Employment rules to compete. That is wrong. period.
After there are no illegals working in the system then if there truley is a need for a guest worker progran. by all means I would support it. As they would have to compete on a equal footing. They could get a fair wage and not be used as slaves. At least not any more than the rest of us.
