I was southbound on I-79 and some bleach blonde woman in a Maroon Dodge truck decided to lock up the brakes in the left hand lane to make an illegal U-turn. With the traffic, speed, and blinding spray, it was a recipe for disaster. I was following the truck in front of me at a distance that he was just out of sight in the spray, a good ways behind him due to the visibilty. As we topped a hill I saw brakelights and slowed accordingly. Even under hard braking, I was catching up quickly. I then decided to hit the median to increase my odds of not hitting him. I saw that the truck in front of him had done the same. I got it hauled down in time and looked in my rearview to see the other cars doing everything they could to avoid a collision. One Subaru went to far wide and slid clear across the median. Oncoming traffic saw this and slowed accordingly to avoid hitting him as his front bumper was in that lane.
Basically, what I saw was a whole lot of people doing exactly what they needed to do to stay alive when one woman decided that it was too inconvenient to go on to the next exit to turn around. She made her turn and then decided to flip off all the people that she had caused to crash/stop. I feel very certain that she is not long for this world with her current driving skills. I just wonder who she is going to take with her. I feel fairly lucky to be uninjured and even more so not to be on the end of a tow trucks hook. Wow, what a day.
