I have converted all of my dual battery equipment to a single battery except for my Cat loader. If I could get the amps from a single battery for this task I would convert it also. My reason for converting is that two battery posts are less problem prone than four. Also, in most instances I was running two 12 volt batteries in parallel and in that arrangement the voltages regulator senses the condition of the best battery therefore one battery is always less than peak charged. One high amp battery is usually cheaper than two batteries. However, in your case since you have to contend with weather that is probably colder than I experience you need to do some research prior to converting. Verify the amp requirement for the tractor and then determine if you can get a single battery that can deliver the CCA (cold cranking amps) equivelant to, preferrable exceding, the two 6 volt batteries. Also realize that all batteries are not the same. The labels lie. Very few, if any, of the batteries will deliver the stated capacity written on them. Buddy up with some heavy equipment operators and ask them what brand they are using and try to get a concensus of opinion. Do not ever think about going to any Auto Discount type store, not even for the family cruiser. The best battery that I can locate here in N C is a Deka. The local dealer only stocks the low and medium ampacity and I have to get him to order the high amp batteries. He states that the public will not pay the higher price for the best battery. It is only another $10 or so. Poor quality batteries are the main source of starter failure on most equipment. If you use large enough cable the length on a tractor should not be a problem. Can't help with the battery box as I am not acquainted with you model of tractor.
