I have shown videos in classes that say when fuel hits $8 a gal alot of people will start to make major changes in their lifestyles. I believe it will happen sooner than that. I think the problem started back in the 80's when we had govt (subsudized sp) fuel that was only $1.00 gal at the pump but actually costs us $2.00 + a gal with all the subsudizes we gave to oil produces. We are all in a world of hurt because what will ever replace fossil fuels (oil, coal, natural gas) that will allow us to comsume energy as we currently do? We have 5% of the worlds population and consume 30% of the world resources, and now everyone want to be like us. Our society will go through a long difficult change before things get better, to find new sustainable fuel sources that produce the amount of energy like we currently have. I see fuel consumption returning to the end user, where you produce what you consume like they did 100 yrs ago. (Wind, solar, and hydrogen vehicles.)
