4 dollars a gallon diesel is 59 cents fuel surcharge per mile.That puts hauling even cheap stuff like paper towels,or cartons,or boxes to about 2.10 per mile,maybe 2.00 per mile.Is that too expensive?Would you rather do without?You wont get trucks to haul it for 1.10 per mile because they will go broke.Another thing is if the area you want food at doesnt have any freight going the other way thats profitable,its going to cost more to get it shipped there to pay for trucks having to dead head out of there to get a load.
