Keep in mind what the others have said; usually the industrial tractor has a heavier, non-adjustable front axle, smaller diameter, wider rear tires and a lower center of gravity with less ground clearance. If these things and some of the points mentioned by others are ok for the "small scale farming" you plan to do then it could be an ok buy, but on the other hand I don't think you would want to be cultivating corn with a low-to-the-ground, wide-tired, narrow-tracked machine. Most industrial models share quite a few engine and mechanical parts with a similar ag model; I wouldn't worry too much about parts for a JD. Good luck.
