Cousin of mine has an adopted kid that came with a set of problems. Not a bad kid, but smart in the wrong ways.
I'll not fill pages with the stories. Latest gig was an excursion in his mom's new Jeep (the one that still had the paper plates on it) while the parents were out for a while. He ended up runnin' on foot after puttin the Jeep on its side in a ditch after a lengthy high-speed chase. Did I mention he doesn't have a license?
Sheriff's deputies asked my cousin whether he wanted the boy released to him or sent to juvie. "Oh no," sez Cuz, "his b*tt's mine tonight."
I didn't see him, but I'm sure the boy bore marks the next morning. Nothin' life threatenin', but somethin' he'll think about before he tries a stunt like that again.
From his years in the foster-care system before comin' to my cousin's home, he knew enough to get Children's Services into the act. Cuz referred them to the sheriff's department.
Children's Services didn't like it much, but that was the end of the story.
Except the sad part -- that this boy won't have learned a thing.
