My mother did most of the raising as dad was always working. She kept a wooden yardstick behind the refrigerator. She would get hold of one arm and around and around we'd go. I tried to run faster to outrun the stick. Ha!
Forget the exact age but was in high school and I did something I shouldn't have. She whipped out the stick as usual but this time I politely took it away from her, broke it into several pieces and handed it back to her. Looked her right in the eyes and said nothing. That was my last lickin.
I thank her for her guidance and love in raising me. It worked.
