My dad has been collecting Matchbox cars for years. He is now moving into an assisted living operation and had to sell off his collection. He basically just broke even after 25 years.
I met Mr. Ertyl at a trade show last year. Nice guy and he says they keep pretty busy running the models that they die-cast. It's one last area of the die-cast business that hasn't been moved to Asia. Most of the other zinc die-cast suppliers have closed or been forced to shift to other products. That said, genuine made in USA Ertyl cast products may be really collectible if they finally shift the stuff overseas.

Today's Featured Article - Restoration Story: Fordson Major - by Anthony West. George bought his Fordson Major from a an implement sale about 18 years ago for £200.00 (UK). There is no known history regarding its origins or what service it had done, but the following work was undertaken alone to bring it up to show standard.
