While filling up my pick up the other day with diesel, I got to talking to a truck driver who was filling up his rig, about the rising cost of fuel. He commented "Well at least you can get the road use tax rebated to you because your private and not commercial" He explained that the Govt. adds an additional road use tax to the diesel but that private individuals are eligible for a refund of the taxes if the vehicle is used for personal use. He went on to say that I should file for the rebate when I do my taxes. I have owned a diesel pick since the early 80's and have never heard of this refund before. I know you can claim a refund for agricultural use but how about personal, non-agricultural use? Does anyone here know anything about it? Thanks in advance.
