Everyone's wage increases are a numbers game. Most cost of living adjustments are made based on core inflation. Since the early 80's, the definition of core inflation was changed to exclude energy and food. Since 99% of American's spend a significant chunk of their pay on food and energy, guess what happens? We get pinched.
While I'm on my soap box, what has always burned my buns is to hear realtor's talk about how hows will appreciate at 10% per year. Wait a second. If wages increase at about 2% those two lines diverge and not converge. Eventually, something was bound to give. Looks like it has :)
