Hi All , Yesterday at an auction there weren't as many scrappers in attendance which is good but there was a kid there with to much money and little regard for the older tractors other than the money they could make him from parts . He bought at least two Olivers , a 1600 and a 1650 that both ran like tops but one had a cracked exhaust manifold . One had the high speed rearend supposedly . The tin was OK but they were working tractors not parade tractors . He drove them out of there . He wanted them strictly for parts . What a shame to destroy good tractors like that ! I hope he never has kids that like tractors because the only tractors left will be the ones that won't run without a computer and we all know how fast computers become obsolete . I'm getting tired of trying to save anything for the future generations . All they can see are dollar signs . I know all of them aren't that way but it seems the majority are . It's sad that the kids of today have no appreciation for the technology of yesterday , of how things were built to last generations not just a few years . Sorry about the same old ranting - I suppose I'll get the same old defense about how there were thousands of those tractors built and they aren't rare because of that . No - they aren't rare now . But at the rate they are being destroyed for ebay sales how many years before they are rare ? ...Randy

Today's Featured Article - Restoration Story: Fordson Major - by Anthony West. George bought his Fordson Major from a an implement sale about 18 years ago for £200.00 (UK). There is no known history regarding its origins or what service it had done, but the following work was undertaken alone to bring it up to show standard. From the engine number, it was found that this Major was produced late 1946. It was almost complete but had various parts that would definitely need replacing.
