As I said earlier, I ran a JD A with a 30 combine. I also ran a 90 Allis Chalmers with an Oliver 550 tractor with independent PTO, which worked MUCH better. However, combines can be operated with a non live pto tractor.
On the tractors you mentioned: I also had to rebuild the motor on the A. At that time, the bare block was availiable from Deere. If you notice on the 2 cyl JDs the block is a separate piece from the crankcase so the rebuild is relatively inexpensive. On the one I had rebuilt, the dealer did the numbers and it was cheaper to bore out the block and buy new pistons and rings than to buy a new bare block.
The 60 is supposed to have independent PTO. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong. They also had 3ph hitch availiable and live hydraulics. On the A, the pto has to be turning for the hydraulics to work, as I recall. I don't think much of the $2000 price for that tractor with a stuck engine. Of the other tractors you mentioned, The B might be a little small to do a good job pulling the 30, the M and MT much to small, and the G plenty strong enough. The G is the same basic design as the A, just bigger.
