Cummins 4bt is probably the easiest Diesel conversion. They are in just about every delivery truck out there and enough people are putting them in vehicles so conversion parts are available. If the 318 in my 1500 ever goes I might consider that swap.
For your Mercedees engine, springs can be beefed up and motor mounts can be fabricated. Flex-plates for the clutch and adapter plates for the stock transmission might be tougher to find.
Also if it's '96 or newer, your state might have some emmissions issues with you using a non-OEM engine.
