My dad had a tandem set-up, it was a 52 M and a 50 M. The 52 had live hydraulics, a cylinder mounted on the hitch frame operated the clutch on the rear tractor and the throttle by a cable and pulley system. The rear tractor was idled down for turns, it was a trick to idle down enough to prevent a jacknife but still have enough hydraulic power to lift the plow or discs. We pulled a five bottom JD plow with it and had a sqadron hitch with 2 12ft discs. I don't remember who built the hitch. We ran this rig from the late 50s into the late 60's or early 70's,spent alot of hours on it and when the going got tough it would walk all over an 806 or 4020. I've been away from the farm for several years but discussions like this bring back some wonderful memories, once a farmboy..........
