We have, for the last 20 years at least, turned our bulls out with the cows about the 1st of June. It will vary a day or two either way, depending on the weather or whatever else we may be doing at that time. I do believe our worst snowstorms in these last 20 years have been in April, which makes it a "perfect" time, if there is a "perfect" time for a snowstorm for us. The majority of the cows are done by the time April rolls around, and the calves that were born in March know that the calf shelters are a good place to be when it is snowing. We were 83% done with calving on the first cycle this year, and the remaining cows that are left, went in the barn the last few nights with the storm. NO problems for us during this storm!! There is always people around here that will change their calving date for the next year because we had a storm at a certain time this year. We stay with the same date and take the good with the bad. May calving doesn't work well for our operation, but it does for a few aroud here.
