BE CAREFUL bypass starting that thing! (Or better yet, DON'T!) Be SURE it's in PARK, 'cause when it starts and picks up speed, and the hydraulic clutch engages, it will be all over you before you know it!
Turning the ignition key operates a solenoid on the engine side of the firewall, above the LH rear of the engine.
Perhaps that is what your hear "clicking", and it is bad, and not making contact, so no power is being sent on to the actual solenoid on the starter.
There will be 2 large studs on that upper solenoid.
Grab a test light. One stud will be always "hot". When you turn the key to start, and it "clicks", the other large terminal should then be "hot" as well, and the "S" terminal down on the main starter solenoid.
