Diesel here in Central NY is 4.35 but saw it as high as 4.74 in Syracuse a couple weeks ago. Gas next to where I work is 3.55 but not too far away is 3.35. Fuel oil at last check was 3.65. I offer a service of removing abandoned fuel oil tanks from basements and have gotten some fuel oil from those. Sometimes for free, sometimes I pay 1.50 a gallon. All depends on the situation. Often there is water and a lot of sludge to be removed before the oil can be used. I also filter and mix used motor oil in with my fuel oil at less than a 10% rate. Never had any problems so far getting it to burn reliably in my regular oil furnace. I’ve been thinking about getting a centrifuge to clean all this old oil easier. Also been researching growing sunflowers and pressing them for oil. Don’t think I can get enough oil from soybeans to make it worthwhile. Sunflowers may actually be more valuable in other ways though, at least at this point. Still may raise them, sell them to buy fuel!
