In an attempt to answer once and for all, the questions regarding 'what motor oil do I use' here is the answer.
Never use anything in your brand tractor except oil marked specifically for it, ie.:
SPECIAL Farmall Super C Motor Oil, for use only in Farmall Super C engines.
or
John Deere Motor Oil, for use ONLY in John Deere engines, made in the John Deere oil refinery using secret ingredients just for JOHN DEERE engines.
or:
Ford Brand Motor Oil specially blended with special additives for FORD tractor engines.
The list goes on and on, just substitute your brand machine and only buy motor oil sold by that maker. Using anything else will cause Oil Gremlins to crawl out of hiding and destroy your engine.
Always keep 3 or more different weights on hand, as well. One for starting the motor on sunny days, one for windy days, another for cold days and one for warm days.
If people are going to LOOK at your tractor, you must use special Appearance Motor Oil sold by your tractor's maker. It has additives to make your paint brighter and your chrome shine better.
Then of course, there is Plowing Oil for use while plowing ONLY! You must drain this out if you wish to cut and bale hay and replace it with Hay Cutting and Baling Oil.
Special Winter Oil has elves in it, that shine your engines innards over the off season and fight off attack by engine gremlins while your tractor is sitting.
If you just want to putter around, by all means, make sure you use Slow Oil and in turn, if you are a pulling enthusiast, use ONLY Go Fast Motor Oil, again made by your tractor's manufacturer.
More than anything else, make sure you change your motor oil at least once a week, or every other time you start the engine. You just can't be too careful.
Most of all, DEMAND and USE, only SPECIAL motor oils designed specifically for YOUR make and model tractor. Ford Oil for Ford's, Farmall Oil for Farmall's and John Deere Oil in JD's. Never ever use another makers brand oil! Who with any conscience would pour oil from a Red can into Green tractor? Never ever use common sense, refer strictly to the owner's manual and follow the instructions to the letter.
Shell Oil never built a tractor, using something like Rotella might make the engine disintegrate. Delo rhymes with Jello...would you pour that in a TRACTOR engine?!!!!!! Havoline rhymes with Vaseline.....god forbid pouring something like that in your engine!
Oh yeah....I also wanted to add, you need to use Plow Grease to make your plow pull easier and to keep it all shiny while it sits.
