I'm just curious as to why people say ethanol can't replace all foreign oil so why bother? I'd think if in the end it replaces 10% that's 10% not coming from over seas. No one says Hybreds will make us independant of foreign oil so why are we bothering with them?
The dollar is falling because we import too much and borrow to much- the falling dollar also accounts for at least 60% on the recent price increases while world market forces like draughts and crop failures probably account for over 30% of the recent increases. If the US didn't convert another bushel of grain into ethanol do you really think it would amount to more than a blip on the market?
Even with the recent increases in corn prices the Dept of Ag says corn planting will be DOWN this year as more farmers convert to soybeans.
The recent price increases might also have more to do with the US converting over 2 acres a minute of prime farm land into urban sprawl. Think of it, since 1982 over 40 MILLION ACRES have been converted in lawn and driveways. Thats over half what the US planted to soybeans in 2006. Imagine if there were another 40 million acres of farmland available for crops.

After some research of convert or not, I decided to go ahead, the main reason being that this tractor was a working tractor, not a show tractor (yet). I did keep everything I replaced for the day I do want to restore her to showroom condition.
