Last year here about the 20th of April we had 3 nights in a row in the low 20's. Knocked the first (and for the most part only) hay cutting back 1/3 to 1/2, stunted pasture and made a mess of bout every thing. UK got some wheat experts from all over the country to come look at the wheat crop. They decided the wheat was done. About a third of the people around here sprayed or disked the wheat. The other 2/3's figured they would cut it for hay because if wheat was gone so would grass hay and they could sell/use the hay. Of the 2/3 that were figure'n on cutting hay about 1/2 of them got busy planting beans and replanting corn and just did not get round to getting it cut. As it kept getting later the wheat kept looking better. Of the 1/3 or so of the total wheat crop here that was thrashed, I herd of NONE, I MEAN NONE, that made less than 40bu/a. Alot of folks around here figure on 30-40. There was more here that made over 50 than less. If you get some frost on your wheat and think it's hurt, don't spay it. Figure on make'n hay out of it,(hay is going to be real high here again) and if it looks too good in 3 to 3 weeks to cut for hay, see what it will do.

But, on the other hand, there is a secret language that our mechanical companions readily do speak. It is an interesting form of communication that involves all the senses of the listener. In this series we are going to investigate and learn the basic rudimentary skills of understanding this lingo.
